World-wide plebiscite and ceasefire today!

■ No Third World War! We women demand that the majority of the world population is heard!

We know that our idea sounds utopian and mad — but a world war in the gulf is a million times more mad.

We know that it will not be the presidents and generals who will die in their safe bunkers. It is ordinary people who will die, exposed to weapons of mass destruction — and first and foremost it will be women and children.

We know that the majority of mankind and the majority in the states involved, including the Arab World, do not want this terrible and absurd war. But they have no voice, and their voices are not heard.

WE DEMAND A WORLDWIDE PLEBISCITE in the name of peace, democracy, international human rights and human dignity: YES OR NO TO THIS WAR. We demand an immediate ceasefire until this plebiscite and afterwards. We demand from the United Nations that it does not leave the interpretation of the Iraq ultimatum to the military. The United Nations cannot remain silent when weapons speak. We demand that this plebiscite is organised by international organisations such as UNESCO, UNICEF and WHO.

Every single individual in the world must be asked for an opinion in this life-and-death matter. That is our most natural and elementary democratic right! Our voice against the voice of arms!

We declare right now that — as long as this does not happen — we will find our own means to organise a provisional plebiscite in all accessible countries as fast as we can. For example we will set a day and a certain time for all those who say No to switch off all electric appliances — the success of this action will be measured by the strain on energy supplies.

In conjunction with this we will organise a non-parliamentary World Peace Conference starting today which will discuss all conflicts in the Middle East crisis region.
