Modern Fascism & the Feminist Fightback : Sexual Revolution
Laurie Penny about her new book “Sexual Revolution”, sex, power, trauma and resistance, the crisis of democracy and white masculinity.
Sexual revolution begins wherever women, queer, nonbinary and trans people, especially those who are not part of the white majority society, stand up and are no longer willing to understand their bodies as property of others. A revolution that aims for a society following the logic of continuously negotiated consent and not being dominated by a coercive culture.

Laurie Penny's plea: a culture of consent that goes far beyond sex, that can change what it means to be a human being and also affects working relationships, political system representation and togetherness on a social level. Thus individual and collective traumas of people of all genders can be healed - and prevented in the future.
A productive transformation goes along with the current crisis due to the process of standing up and denouncing. Our understanding of sex and gender, and whose bodies are given meaning through whom, is changing profoundly and permanently. This sexual revolution hence poses a threat to the social and economic order. No wonder the extreme right is fighting back so hard.
A sexual revolution has begun, and this time it will be unstoppable.
Penny writes about sex, power, trauma and resistance - and thus also about the crisis of democracy and the history of (white) masculinity, which is disturbing the future - and how feminism can save it.
