Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly facing rumors of a return to Italy, just half a season after joining the English club, due to his underwhelming performances. On the 22nd (Korean time), sports media outlet ‘ESPN’ quoted Italy’s ‘Calcio Mercato,’ stating that “Manchester United striker Zirkzee is considering leaving the team in January.” Zirkzee, a promising striker from the Netherlands, was once seen as a rising star when he joined Bayern Munich. However, he failed to secure a spot at the German club and eventually moved to Serie A side Bologna. At Bologna, Zirkzee began to show signs of his potential. During the 2023/24 season, he made a significant impact with 12 goals and 7 assists in 37 appearances. Following his impressive season at Bologna, Zirkzee attracted attention from major European clubs once again. Manchester United, seeking a striker to complement Rasmus Højlund, identified Zirkzee as a suitable candidate during the summer transfer window. The club spent £36.5 million (approximately 65.4 billion KRW) to bring him to Old Trafford. Unfortunately, Zirkzee has failed to replicate his Bologna form at Manchester United. While he did score a goal in United’s Premier League opener against Fulham in August, he has since struggled to find the back of the net.
