In war, art has to adapt, just like society as a whole. Art is needed: to express grief, and to give hope, to instill confidence and to help overcome traumata, to promote solidarity abroad, to build bridges and, last not least, to de-colonize. But artists, too, fall victim to missile attacks, destruction and displacement. Under wartime circumstances, how free and aesthetic, how critical and provocative can art be? Our guests will try to answer this question through a discussion of selected current artworks from Ukraine.
