.Due to its geographical location the Middle East is one of the regions most affected by climate change worldwide. Despite the urgency of the issue, it is rather underrepresented in local media.
Over a period of one year, a network of fifteen experienced women journalists from Lebanon, northeastern Syria and Iraq is to
a) receive training in environmental journalism
b) facilitate exchange with international environmental experts
c) work on solution-oriented environmental issues across countries
d) publish nationally and internationally on environmental issues.
Fifteen female journalists will be invited to exchange their experiences and increase their professionalism.
The seminar will take place mainly online. There will be an in-person kick-off meeting in Erbil (in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq) plus a stay in Berlin in summer 2023. Here the participants will meet journalists, politicians, public stakeholders and experts. The participants will get to know the German media landscape, they can increase their knowledge about Germanys culture and politics and will have the chance for networking.

Further information
The workshop is free of charge. Expenses with regard to the visit of Berlin (flight, hotel, meals) will be paid by taz Panter Foundation.

Requirement for Participation
• Journalistic experience of at least five years in online-, print-, radio-, or TV-outlets.
• Access to internet (computer or notebook, smartphone)
• Working language will be Arabic, with simultaneous translation to/from English. At least passive English would be fine. There will be no translation into Kurdish
• Journalists without international experience are highly welcome

Applications (not later than 28th of August 2023)
Interested journalists are asked to send an application in English, in the form of one PDF, that includes:
• CV, including date of birth, place of residence, e-mail-address, work experience, knowledge of language, photo
• statement of motivation, including e-mail-contact of two journalistic reference persons, who may be contacted by taz Panter foundation (maximum 1000 characters/ 200 words)
• information as to whether you have a valid visa for Germany
Applications in Arabic can be accepted only in exceptional cases. Please ask colleagues or friends for help with your English, if needed.

Participants chosen will be informed till 9th of September 2023.
